  Our son (2 yr 11 months) came via ambulance with my husband around 8pm on 16/09/2017 whilst I was on my way from Galway. He was running a pretty high fever and was given Calpol and Nurofen by paramedics. He also had running tummy and was throwing up every now and again. Blood sugar recorded 4,6. Appetite was gone. Clearly very weak. Upon arrival at the hospital the nurses checked his temperature again and parked him and my husband in the waiting room with a cup of apple juice to bring his bloods up and help with the gastro. I arrived from Galway and headed straight to the hospital. 11pm the doctor had not attended to him and no further tests had been done to establish why his fever kept running high. 12:30am we query the long wait and the nurse gives us a brief explanation of a triage system whose application and decisions thereof I'm wondering since no vitals have been used to determine who goes first. In the meantime my son is still losing fluid, eyes paling and clearly weak. No explanations provided for the loooooong wait, no apologies until we complain. Nurse explains that the doctor....whom we have been waiting for a long time for - is the only one who can give instructions for any checks that need to be done. 1:30am - finally get to see the doctor ...who then tells us that our son would need to stay for observation and will be checked by another doctor to see how he is responding. Now I'm wondering...another wait... It's a flat NO rating for me for this hospital. Oh, and I'm a type 1 diabetic as well so there's 2 patients now as a result of this disservice... Worst ER service ever!!
